At first glance, it seems like a monumental task: Germany is aiming to become climate-neutral by 2045. The building stock must be included in this effort, as the building and heating sectors are responsible for 40 percent of CO2 emissions. However, this also means there are significant opportunities to unlock.
In our new podcast “synavision insights,” Dr. Stefan Plesser, CEO and co-founder of synavision, and Jens Böhnlein, Global Head of Asset Management and Sustainability at Commerz Real, discuss how this could be achieved. The conversation is moderated by independent real estate journalist Christian Hunziker.
Stefan Plesser emphasizes that many measures to improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings are already available today. Even with minimal effort, quick wins can be achieved, particularly when it comes to properly adjusting heating and ventilation systems. These small, cost-effective interventions can unlock savings potential that, looking ahead to the overall savings goals for 2045, could account for up to a quarter of CO2 emissions.
The key message: Property owners and builders must work together. This is the way to achieve the energy transition in the building sector. And climate neutrality, upon closer inspection, becomes an achievable goal.
